Integrating IEC61850 Devices into the Management Platform
Scenario: You want to integrate IEC61850 devices into the management platform.

Workflow diagram:
Prerequisites:
- An active IEC 61850 driver license is available in the Licensed Products tab in the License Management Utility (LMU). The IEC61850 driver becomes available only when the new license option GMS_opt_IEC61850 is activated.
- You have the software distribution containing the IEC61850.
- You have installed IEC61850 and have added it to a management station project using the SMC.
- System Browser is in Management View.
Steps:
1 – Create and Configure a CSV File
- You have knowledge about the format and content of the CSV file.
- Navigate to [Installation Drive]:\[Installation Folder]\GMSMainProject\profiles\IEC61850DataTemplate.
- The IEC61850_template_3.1_Instances.csv file is provided by default.
- Create a copy of this file at any location on your hard drive and thereafter modify the information present in the
[CONNECTIONS]
and[DEVICES]
sections as per the device configuration.
- Save the CSV file.
2 – Create and Start the IEC61850 Driver
- Select Project > Management System > Servers > Main Server > Drivers.
- The Object Configurator cab displays.
- Click New Object and select New IEC61850 Driver.
- In the Create New Object dialog box, the Child type is pre-defined as IEC61850 Driver, and the name and description are pre-defined as IEC61850Driver_n and IEC61850 Driver n respectively, where 'n' represents the count of the number of drivers in the system.
- Click OK.
- The new IEC61850 driver object displays in the System Browser below the Drivers node and is selected.
- Select IEC61850 Driver.
- In the Extended Operation tab navigate to the Manager Status property.
- Click Start to start the driver. Enlarge the pane, if needed, to access the buttons that are located on the right side of the pane.
- The Manager Status property changes to Started indicating that the driver has started.
3 – Create the IEC61850 Network and associate it with the IEC61850 Driver
- Select Project > Field Networks.
- Object Configurator displays.
- Click New Object and select New IEC61850 Network.
- The Create New Object dialog box displays with Child type pre-defined to IEC61850 Network.
- Do the following:
a. Enter a name and description.
b. Click OK: The IEC61850 Network node appears in the System Browser.
- Select the IEC61850 Network and select the IEC61850 tab.
- Open the Network Settings expander.
- From the Monitored by driver drop-down list, select the IEC61850 driver you want to associate with the network.
- Click Save .
- The IEC61850 driver is associated with the IEC61850 network.
4 – Import IEC61850 Devices Into the Management Station
NOTE:
Power Devices must be integrated in Desigo CC only by the powermanager extension.
- No background processes, such as project backup or BACnet discovery, are in progress.
- [To add devices below a logical or user defined view] You have mapped the hierarchies of the logical or user defined view in the Hierarchies Mapping section.
- In System Browser, select Management View.
- Select Project > Field Networks > [IEC61850 Network].
- Select the Import tab.
- Click Browse.
- The File Open dialog box displays.
- Select the CSV file and click OK.
- The CSV file is pre-processed and validated. If the file is valid and has all the required parameters, the entries in the file are listed in the Source Items list. In case of any discrepancies, an error message displays in the Preimport File Log dialog box. You can access this dialog box by clicking the Analysis Log button.
- Select the items to import from the list of items displayed in the Source Items list. If the list of items is long, you can filter the items by using the Search field. Once you have your list of filtered items, you can remove the applied filter by deleting the text.
NOTE: If after selecting a file to import, you decide to change your selection, a message box displays and informs you that selecting another file will clear all items that are displayed in the Source Items list and confirms if you want to proceed. Click Yes if you want to continue. The Source Items list is cleared.
- Click No to abort the change of selection. The Source Items list is not cleared.
- Click to import.
- The selected items are transferred to the Items to Import list.
NOTE: To return the items from the Items to Import list to the Source Items list, click .
- (Optional) Select the Delete unselected items from the views check box only if, during the import, you want to remove from the views any items that are not present in the file to import. For example, you can use this option when there is some pre-existing data in the system for that view, but you do not want to retain it.
- Click Import.
- A confirmation message displays.
- Click Yes.
- The import procedure begins and a progress bar displays.
- When the import completes successfully, the Import dialog box displays a summary of the import information.
- Click OK.
- (Optional) Click the Import Log button to view a log of the import process.
5 – Verify the Fault Alarms (Power Quality Events) and Generate Reports
You can verify the fault alarms and generate reports by performing the following steps:
- Install PQDiff.
a. It is recommended to use the free software PQDiffractor for visualization and analysis of PQDIF files. In the operating system, you can associate the PQDIF file types with PQDiffractor so that the software automatically opens the files on double-clicking them.
NOTE: You can download PQDiffractor from the following location: http://www.pqview.com/pqdiffractor/.
b. Run the PQDiffractorSetup.exe and follow the steps in the Wizard, leaving the default settings, to install the PQDiffractor application.
c. Select the Accessories program folder to tell the setup where to add the program icon.
d. Create a shortcut to the PQDiffractor.exe in the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\PQDiffractor.
e. Use the measurement files uploaded to: [Installation Drive]:\[Installation Folder]\[Project Name]\data\IEC61850\DR\CNS node name\OtherFiles and Fault files that are uploaded to: [Installation Drive]:\[Installation Folder]\[Project Name]\data\IEC61850\DR\CNS node name\FaultFiles.
- Verify the Fault event in the Event List.
a. To generate a fault event, the PQM device is connected and has the following settings in the Client and in the Object Model Creator tab. In this device, the Value.info.FaultNumber property automatically displays in the Selected Properties section of the Object Model Creator tab, when you click the Discover objects button. In order to display the Object Model Creator tab, you must select the IEC61850 network or the device connection object below the network in the System Browser. For example, turn the potentiometer to reduce the 24 V supply voltage. This simulates a voltage dip and should evoke a fault event. Compared against the 90% voltage dip threshold, a fault should occur at anything under 21.6 volts.
b. Observe that a Fault alarm appears in the Summary bar and event list.
c. Identify the fault number and the event information. You should see the event with cause set as Power Quality fault observe the Fault Number property in the Extended Operation pane. This number is the running total of power quality events.
d. Acknowledge the event to set the event back to normal and ready it to be closed.
- Generate measurement and fault reports to analyze the incident.
