Troubleshooting BACnet Fire 3rd Party

The following section describes how to handle common driver, network, discovery, and EDE file import error conditions.

Troubleshooting BACnet Driver and Network

Message

Situation

Do the following...

Invalid network or instance number for the management platform.

The driver configuration is invalid or incorrect.

In the Settings expander of the BACnet tab, enter the network and instance number. See Configure the BACnet Driver.

The BACnet driver is only fully configured when a physical network connection is added. If you save it without a network connection, you can run XML data imports (*.s1x)but the driver does not communicate within the BACnet network.

The driver configuration is invalid or incorrect.

In the BT BACnet Stack Configuration expander of the BACnet tab, create the required ports and select a network adapter. See Configure the BACnet Driver.

The BACstack configuration includes invalid data and cannot be saved. The network number for the workstation and the number for the virtual BACstack port must match.

Inconsistent driver configuration in the Settings and BT BACnet Stack Configuration expanders of the BACnet tab.

Check that the network number configured in Desigo CC and the network number of the virtual port are the same. The numbers must also match the virtual BACnet network of the BACnet network.

The driver cannot be deleted while monitoring the following network: network_xyz.

You tried to delete a driver currently connected to a network.

You must first delete the corresponding network and then try again to delete the driver.
NOTE: Deleting a network deletes the entire data structure.

Troubleshooting Online Discovery

Condition

Possible Causes

Do the following...

No communication

Desigo CC is located on the same network:

  • No foreign device defined
  • IP Address does not reference the BBMD device on the network.
  • UDP Port not correctly defined.
  1. In System Browser, under Main Server or FEP select the driver.
  2. Select the BACnet tab and open the BT BACnet Stack Config expander.
  3. Check the settings for Port properties > Foreign device.
The IP Address must reference the BBMD device on the network.

No communication

BACnet driver not working.

  1. In System Browser, under Main Server or FEP select the driver.
  2. Select the Extended Operation tab.
  3. Next to the Manager Status property, click Start.
Troubleshooting EDE File Import

Prior to import data in the EDE file is analyzed. Any errors found is are saved in a log file. Open the log file to view the error message.

Message

Situation

Do the following...

n found objects of unknown object type

This specific error is present in the log file.

Continue with the import. The listed objects will not be imported.

Delimiters recognized that do not match

Modify the hierarchy delimiters in the Hierarchy-User.txt or Hierarchy-Logical.txt files.

Minimum limit (0) must be >= 1.

Modify the minimum character length in the Hierarchy-User.txt or Hierarchy-Logical.txt files.

Minimum or maximum length breached or exceeded

Check the hierarchy delimiter; modify the minimum or maximum character length in the Hierarchy-User.txt or Hierarchy-Logical.txt files.

No specific error messages.

The data points were imported into the logical view or user view without a hierarchical structure.

Check the hierarchy delimiters in the Hierarchy-User.txt or Hierarchy-Logical.txt files.

No specific error messages.

No Function was configured for a data point.
NOTE: This is an optional function.

Check the following:

  • Is the Function present in the EDE file?
  • Was the import rule configured using the function key?
  • Was the function key spelled correctly in the EDE file and import rules?

No specific error messages.

Characters imported individually are not correctly displayed. This means that the EDE file was created using a character set different from what expected by Desigo CC

Check the configuration of the encoding property in the EDE file.
