Upgrading or Migrating a Video Project

This section provides instructions for backing up and restoring a video project, or migrating it to a new version of Desigo CC.

Upgrade Desigo CC with Video to V6.0

You can directly upgrade to V6.0 from V4.0 or higher. To upgrade from older versions, you must upgrade through intermediate steps.
IMPORTANT! To avoid loss of data, be sure to back up the Video API configuration before you start the 6.0 upgrade, and then restore it afterwards, as instructed here.

  1. Back up the Video API configuration:
  • In the SMC tree, select Projects > [project].
  • In the Video Settings tab, click Backup .
  • The resulting backup file is named Backup_yyyymmdd_hhmmss.CSV, where yyyymmdd is the current date, and hhmmss is the current time. The file is stored in the data\BT_Video_API sub-folder of the project folder, which will be part of the global project backup.
  1. Follow the standard Desigo CC upgrade procedure for V6.0 .
  1. Restore the Video API configuration:
  • In the SMC tree, select Projects > [project].
  • In the Video Settings tab, click Restore .

Upgrade Desigo CC with Video to V4.x or V5.x
  • From Desigo CC V3.x, you can follow the standard Desigo CC upgrade procedure for V4.x or V5.x.
  • From Desigo CC V2.1 or higher, you can follow the standard Desigo CC upgrade procedure for V4.x.
  • From Desigo CC V2.0 SP1, you can proceed as follows:
    • Back up the video configuration as described in the Backing Up a Project With Video section, below.
    • Install the 4.x Desigo CC version. The upgrade of previous software and video configuration is performed automatically (if the configuration is available).
NOTE: If you want to uninstall the previous software, you can still upgrade the configuration as long as you do not manually delete any configuration data. In any case, for instance if you change the computer, you can perform a restore.
    • Before operating, associate again the VideoApiService user account to the BT Video API Service.
  • From Desigo CC V1.0 and V2.0: The video configuration database has completely changed compared to the previous V1.x and V2.0 versions. Therefore, when you upgrade an old video project from these versions, all video objects must be removed and then created again in the new environment.
For more information, please contact technical support.

Old Desigo CC projects that include video can only be upgraded if the new version of the Desigo CC software also includes the video extension module.
Contact technical support in the case you need to remove any previous video data from your existing project and prepare it for the new installation.

Back up and Restore a Desigo CC Project with Video

If you want to completely uninstall and then re-install Desigo CC , or if you want to transfer a video project to a different Desigo CC server, you must:

  1. First create a full set of backups of the VMS configuration, Video API configuration and the Desigo CC project, as instructed in Backing up a Project with Video, below.
  1. On the target Desigo CC installation, restore the VMS configuration, the Desigo CC project, and then the Video API configuration, as instructed in Restoring a Project with Video, below.
NOTICE

Full Set of Backups Required
When you back up the video configuration, it is essential that you perform a BT Video API backup, a project backup, a history backup, and a VMS configuration backup all at the same time. You must then store these matching backups as a set, and use them together for a subsequent restore operation. You can only restore from a full set of backups that have all been made at the same time.

To restore to Desigo CC V6.0 the backups must be from Desigo CC V4.0 or higher

Back Up a Project With Video

A Desigo CC project is fully configured for video surveillance (see Video). You want to back up this project so that you can later restore the same configuration. This requires backing up the following components:
- The configuration of the Video Management System (VMS), which covers the cameras.

- The configuration of the Video extension (BT Video API), which covers all video objects except for cameras.

- The configuration of the Desigo CC project, which covers most of the system objects.
- The Desigo CC History Database.

Complete the following steps in order.

Step 1: Back up the VMS configuration

  • Follow the instructions in the separate VMS documentation.

Step 2: Back up the BT Video API configuration

  1. Start SMC.
  1. In the SMC tree, select Projects > [project].
  1. Select the Video Settings tab.
  1. Click Backup .
  • The resulting backup file is named Backup_yyyymmdd_hhmmss.CSV, where yyyymmdd is the current date, and hhmmss is the current time. The file is stored in the data\BT_Video_API sub-folder of the project folder, which will be part of the global project backup.

Step 3: Back up the Desigo CC Project

  • System Manager is in Engineering mode.
  1. In System Browser, select Management View.
  1. Select Project > Management System > Servers > Main Server.
  1. In the Operation tab:
    a. (Optional) Adjust the Backup Destination folder and other backup parameters.
    b. Click Start alongside Backup Status to initiate the backup.
  • In the selected backup folder, the resulting sub-folder is named yyyymmdd_hhmm, where yyyymmdd is the current date, and hhmm is the current time. The sub-folder structure also includes the latest video backup information.

Step 4: Back up the History Database

  • System Manager is in Engineering mode.
  1. In System Browser, select Management View.
  1. Select Project > Management System > Servers > Main Server > History Database > Backup.
  1. In the Operation tab:
    a. (Optional). Adjust the Default Backup File path where the backup will be stored.
    b. Click Start alongside Backup Status to initiate the History Database backup.
  • The backup is stored in the Default Backup File location.

Store the four backups together

  • Store these four backups (VMS, BT Video API, project, and history) together as a single set.
Restore a Project With Video

To restore a Desigo CC project that includes video surveillance, you must have a set of four backups (VMS, BT Video API, project, and history) made at the same time. See Backing Up a Project With Video, above. .

Complete the following steps in order:

Step 1: Restore the VMS configuration

  • Follow the instructions in the separate VMS documentation.

Step 2: Restore the Desigo CC Project

  1. Start SMC.
  1. In the SMC tree, select Projects.
  1. Click Restore Project .
  1. In the Select project backup folder dialog box, select the location of the project backup, prepared as instructed in Backing Up a Project With Video, above.

  1. In SMC, expand the History Infrastructure and select the SQL folder.
  1. Click Restore .
  1. Complete the Settings and Files and Paths expanders.
  1. Click Save .
  1. In the SMC tree, select Projects > [project] and associate the restored History Database to it.

Activate and Start the Newly Restored Project

  1. In the SMC tree, select Projects > [project].
  1. Click Activate Project .
  1. Click Start Project .
  • You can now start the Desigo CC application.

Disconnected Not Aligned Events
If you restored a 2.x configuration, you will get a Disconnected Not Aligned event. In System Manager, connect video to acquire the camera configuration.

If you restored a 3.0 configuration or higher, the video application should be automatically connected and aligned. If instead you get a Disconnected Not Aligned event, check why the video configuration in the Video Configurator tab does not match the System Browser objects (you may have forgotten to restore the BT Video API configuration). At this point, if you connect video, System Browser will be aligned to the Video Configurator objects.

NOTICE

Risk of Data Loss
It is essential to first restore a consistent configuration of the connected Video Management System (VMS), before you restore the management-system project, its BT Video API configuration, and history.
Failing to restore the VMS first may result in a loss of data, because when the management-system project runs, the system (BT Video API and then System Browser) will be refreshed with an incorrect VMS configuration. This may result in unwanted modifications or deletions of video objects.
If this type of data loss occurs in System Browser, be aware that a subsequent refresh with the correct VMS configuration may not be sufficient to fix all video objects. In such a case, you will have to redo the entire restore procedure from the beginning.
